FOREWORD
The pharmacist is a professional specialist of medicines, who fulfils the mission of respect to human life and being. The pharmacist as a provider of health assistance due to specific knowledge, skills and behaviour acquired throughout undergraduate and postgraduate studies plays an important role in primary healthy care system. The main tasks of the pharmacist, representing abilities, aptitudes, quality and competence, are to be extended in accordance of the requirements of the society. This year (2004) the Faculty of Pharmacy of the State Medical and Pharmaceutical University “Nicolae Testemitanu” will celebrate its 40 anniversary. Throughout all these years the graduates of the faculty succeeded in demonstrating and applying in practice the knowledge acquired during the years of studies in such a way that the faculty is renowned all around the world.
The pharmacist, named today as a specialist with “seven stars”, can operate in a lot of domains of pharmacy: scientific-practice field of health care system – medicine research, production plants, pharmaceutical storehouses, clinical and community pharmacys, in quality control and chemical-judiciary labs. All over the world the pharmacist is considered the main specialist of medicines.
The Faculty of Pharmacy of the State Medical and Pharmaceutical University “Nicolae Testemitanu” has all necessary conditions for training pharmaceutical specialists whose knowledge and skills meets all international and national standards.
In the labs of the 4 pharmaceutical departments, future pharmacists study such subjects as: chemistry of medicines, medicinal plants, modern technologies in producing extemporal forms of medicines in pharmacys, market analysis for the sector of medicines, management of teams of pharmacists. The students’ special interest is paid to production skills acquirement which is accomplished in plants and factories in place and abroad, in pharmacys and research teams.
According to the role of the pharmacist, s/he is to be involved in the triangle “doctor-pharmacist-patient” and the main aim is to assure optimal treatment.
Those who can accomplish this goal can be truly considered to be pharmacists.
