Undergraduate students

Overview
The subject matter of the undergraduate level is to form and improve medical and pharmaceutical specialists with moral principles, knowledge and practical skills indispensable for qualified, competent and responsible execution of their profession, organization of the academic process, scientific research, clinical activity (diagnosis, treatment, prevention of diseases).
Studies are provided in conformity with national and international standards, which are recommended by the WHO. The process of training and improving the medical skills is accomplished within the clinical units with the amount of 10000 beds placed in republican, municipal hospitals, research centres, dispensers, policlinics, pharmacies.
Faculties - Courses - Academic calendar
International students are enrolled to the following faculties at SMPhU: General medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy. Courses are provided in Romanian, English and Russian languages at all faculties. Duration of courses is different as following:
General medicine - 6 years
Dentistry - 5 years
Pharmacy - 5 years

Each academic year consists of 34 weeks divided in two semesters: Autumn semester (17 weeks) and Spring semester (17 weeks). After each semester there is an examination session. Academic year begins at 1st of September and ends at the beginning of August (including summer practical stage).

Post-graduate students
Overview
University offers the following types of post-graduated studies to International students: postgraduate residency, clinical secondary studies and PhD studies. Now at the University over 1700 people, including 68 foreign citizens, are doing their postgraduate Residency and Clinical secondary studies. Beginning with 1996 41 foreign citizens from Syria, Jordan, Yemen, Romania, Sudan, Israel, Libya etc. were enrolled to PhD studies and 12 of them successfully defended the PhD thesis.

Postgraduate residency is aimed to prepare highly qualified specialists in different branches of medicine. Residency students are trained by highly qualified professionals in different clinics which have in total 2500 beds.
Syllabi in all specialties are accredited and Standards of Education in most specialties are elaborated and approved at the Faculty.
At the end of postgraduate Residency and Clinical Secondary Studies graduates have to pass a complex License Examination and receive a License diploma in the studied specialty.

The aim of PhD studies is to prepare scientific staff. There are two forms of studies - full-time with the duration of three years and by correspondence with the duration of 4 years.
The University assures training in Romanian (Russian) medium according to the PhD student's plan of activity.
The PhD student has a scientific guide who renders him consultative and methodical help in carrying out researches, preparing and defending the PhD thesis. PhD students who successfully defended the PhD thesis are granted the scientific title PhD in Medical Science or PhD in Pharmaceutical Science.
