International Relation

The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics (USMF) „Nicolae Testemitanu" is collaborating with about 40 other universities, research institutes, hospitals, NGO from Great Britain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, USA, Holland, Finland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Romania, Hungary, India, Jordan, Syria, Turkish and other countries. Our University is a member of Francophone University Agency, which includes around 400 universities.

USA
Distance Education
This project of distance education has been ongoing for the last two years; it's a common project between USMF and East Carolina University, Greenville, within the bilateral partnership between Republic of Moldova and North Carolina.
In this new study year, the program will have a new format which is based on case presenting. The American experts will exanimate a case which was presented by a student or a resident from USMF.
Library Co-operation:
Thanks to the collaboration with North Carolina state, the teaching-staff, students and residents from USMF have the same access to the electronic information resources as of a collaborator, student or resident at a medical educational institution in North Carolina.
In the next future, a new tranche, from North Carolina Libraries, of textbooks, monographers, medical journals is being expected to be sent.

The visit of the USMF delegation at the East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina State
In May 2008, 3 USMF collaborators participated at the "Global Partners in Education" conference, which took place in Greenville.
There have been discussed the possibilities which USMF has of being included in the virtual teaching global network and also planning the directions for a future collaboration. The delegation was introduced to the up-to-date teaching methods, including the standardized patient and the usage of the automatic methods.
Dentists Cooperation
USMF was visited by many dentist delegations from North Carolina. It is being initiated the distance education for dentists. Beside the educational process which is being offered to the Faculty of Dentistry collaborators, the dentists from USA offered free dental care for children from orphanages from the Republic of Moldova.
The representative of the Fulbright program at SPhU
Andrew Behnke, a teacher from Pennsylvania, USA, specialist in the field of endocrinology and internal diseases, he is going to activate at USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" during the fall semester of the 2008-2009 year, within the "US Fulbright Scholar" program, organized by the USA embassy in Moldova.
Teacher Benkey, is going to activate at the endocrinology, internal diseases and cardiology Departments, he is going to get acquainted with the activity of the Residency and Fellowship Training Department. He is going to lead the medical practice classes for the students who are being thought in English, he is going to lead a set of lectures on diabetes, on pathology of thyroid, hyper metabolic syndrome etc.
Already 9 professors from USMF had their knowledge improved via this program, they also did some scientific researches in different educational and research institutions from USA.
The selection for the Fulbright program, for the year 2009, has been done-Ghenadie Curocichin, Family Medicine Department, who is going to study at Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, USA, for a period of 6 moths.

France
During the 2007-2009 study year and also within the Geriatrics Program, which was developed with the support of St. Augustin Hospital Group, 3 residents and doctors completed their internship at the Clinic from Malestroit, two of them are working now at the Geriatrics Center, which is created within Ministry of Health No.1 Hospital, the project being prolonged and for this year.
A master degree student from School of Public Health completed his internship within the agreement with FEHAP.
23 students from the 5th year at the Filiere Francophone, with the support of AUF and St. Augustin Hospital Group, they had the opportunity to complete their internship in one of the University Centers from Angers, Nantes, Marseille and also in some of the Hospital Institutions which belong to St. Augustin Hospital Group.
Some professors also completed 4 residential courses by wining 2 doctoral scholarships and one for beginners.

Belgium
This year to the cooperation agreement between USMF and ULB, which was signed, was added an addendum, which refers to the way of organizing the activities within the FOSFOM scholarship program.
With the sight on promoting this motilities, there have been organized a program presentation which was done by the ULB coordinator, Professor Elie Cogan. After the competition which took place in the last 2 years, there have been selected 5 and respective 6 candidates who are going to receive these scholarships.
Two persons completed their residency courses in the ULB University Hospitals.
With the support of AUF, there has been organized a teaching mission done by professor Cogan, from ULB, in the field of internal medicine for the resident students, including lectures and seminars.
Also, together with the partners from ULB, there have been some work done on the research project elaboration, which was a response to the OMS's appeal, with the theme which is very important in our days: Reasons to keep and to attract the medical professionals in the rural area. We are waiting for the results of this competition.
Holland and Italy
In September-October 2007 period, within the Tempus TACIS, CD_JEP_25195-2004"Problem Based Medical Education for Moldova" project.

  • it has been created the education area "Lands Cape" with 37 computers and a server, a multimedia projector, video and electronic technologies in Romanian, Russian and English language;
  • There have been created didactic laboratories "mini lands cape", within 4 of the implementing departments, which are fitted with 5 high-tech computers which are used in the teaching process;
  • There have been installed virtual educational software, electronic books, etc. in Romanian, Russian, and English language.

There have been successfully implemented the main method, which is based on problem analysation (clinical case), for the 2nd year groups, faculty of General Medicine, Human Physiology course (April-May, 2008).
There have been edited:

  • 2 textbooks
  • 6 sets of problems for the education method which is based on problem analysis (clinical case), for Physiology and Physiopathology Department
    • Compendium for students
    • Compendium for student-coordinators;
  • Compendium for consultants

Within the same project:

  • In the Republic of Moldova and abroad, there have been published 5 articles;
  • Participation at 2 international conferences, in the field of higher medical education;

Germany
Within the realization of the collaboration agreement between USMF „Nicolae Testemitanu" and Scientific Research Center from Minchin, the next things have been done:

  • Professor and Doctor Mr. Rolf Engelrecht's visit, the head of the USMF’s „Nicolae Testemitanu" medical informatics laboratory;
  • Management services for the elaboration of the curriculum for "Medical Informatics" teaching line;
  • Management services for the implementation of the hospital information systems and also of the patient's electronic card;
  • Medical informatics seminary;
  • There have been prepared and applied the proposal made by the project Tempus Tacis, regarding the universities from Romania, Russia, Germany, Kazakhstan in the field of medical informatics.

Within the collaboration with the Koch-Mecinicov Foundation from Berlin:

  • The specialist in the area of phthisiatry visited each other;
  • There have been organized a Moldo - German conference, in the field of reluctance of the tuberculosis infection.

Within the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Health in Germany:

  • There are being made the necessary steps towards the integration of the collaborators from USMF „Nicolae Testemitanu" into the scientific projects which are part of the European Union 7th Framework Program.

Poland
Within the collaboration agreement between Medical Sciences University from Poznan (Poland) and USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu", which was signed in 2004, 5 USMFstudents (2 students from the faculty of General Medicine, and 3 from the faculty of Pharmacy) had the advantage to have some training in Poznan, for a period of 2, and also 3 students from Poland had some training in Moldova.

Czech Republic
This passing year the USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" was visited by Mr. Tomas Zima, dean of the First Faculty of Medicine of the Carol University of Czech Republic and Mr. Jan Briza, director of the General University Hospital in Prague. During this visit there have been elaborated a project for a collaboration agreement between USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" and Carol University Faculty of Medicine of Czech Republic.

Romania
To trigger the collaboration relationships between USMF and Tirgu-Mures, Timisoara, Sibiu.
Sign the collaboration agreement with MPhU of Tirgu-Mures. A delegation from USMF "Nicolae Testemitanu" participated at the annual conference MPhU Tirgu-Mures.
